Other homes have evaporative-specific ducting or a single large ceiling register that cannot be used with a central AC. Homes that have boilers or radiant heat will not have any ducts at all.

Ductless mini-splits are a good option if you do not have existing ducts. However, even if you opt for ductless mini-splits instead of a central AC, you’ll still need to have the old unit removed and all of the new components installed.
